Welcome to a Small Town Community of Faith and Fellowship

Join us as we grow in our faith, navigate the world, and connect with each other and our community at Williamsburg United Methodist Church.

In all things, we try to follow Jesus’ teaching that the most important commands are to love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength and to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Open hearts. Open minds. Open doors.

Our Story and Mission

At Williamsburg United Methodist Church, our mission is to nurture spiritual growth, promote inclusivity, and serve others with compassion. We are committed to creating a welcoming environment where everyone can explore their faith and find a sense of belonging.

In 2023 Kathleen Whitmore became our pastor. Our values are rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ. We strive to live out these values through worship, education, and outreach programs that make a positive impact on the lives of those we serve.

What Happens on Sunday?

Sunday Service Times

We worship in person on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m.

Sunday schools are offered for adults and kids at 9:30 a.m. prior to worship.

We would love for you to join us for Sunday school or worship or both!

What should I expect?

First and foremost, expect to experience God through the presence of the Holy Spirit.

When you enter, you will be greeted by a friendly face who can assist you to navigate the building, get a cup of coffee or answer any questions.

During service, children worship with their parents. They are invited forward for a Children’s Moment with the pastor. Afterwards, they may stay in the worship service with the adults or leave to attend children’s church.

Worship

Services last approx. 60 minutes. Expect brief fellowship, followed by group prayer, a hymn, the Children’s Moment, special music offering, scripture reading, a message, community joys & concerns, Lord’s Prayer and final hymn.

Our dress is casual. We want you to wear what is both comfortable for you and God-honoring.

Communion

On the first Sunday of every month, everyone is invited to receive Holy Communion following the sermon and offering. We believe that everyone – members and guests, regardless of denomination or church background – are welcome at the Lord’s table.

Our Community Offerings

Worship Services

We worship in person on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am. Sunday Schools for adults and kids are at 9:30 am.

During the year services are held for Ash Wednesday at the beginning of Lent, Good Friday before Easter, and the evening of Christmas Eve.

In the Summer we hold a service in the Williamsburg Park during Jayhawker Days.

Harvester's Food Pantry Ministry

Every 2nd Thursday we distribute boxes of food to people in need in the Franklin County school district. The boxes include shelf-stable items and sometimes fresh vegetables. This is done in partnership with Harvester’s Food Network.

Harvesters mobilizes the power of our community to create equitable access to nutritious food and address the root causes and impact of hunger.

WinGS

WinGS (Workers in God’s Service) meets to make blankets, afghans, and prayer shawls for those in need.

We share fellowship to encourage and support each other. As each piece is made, we pray for the person who will use it.

This is an open group and all are welcome. No sewing experience is necessary because there are many tasks to be shared.

Please contact us if you know of someone who would be blessed by one of these items.

Adult Programs

Join us for engaging discussions, thought-provoking questions, and shared insights that encourage spiritual growth and understanding.  Whether you’re newly exploring your faith or have walked this path for years, we invite you to come as you are and experience the transformative power of God’s teachings.

Adult Bible Study meets on Wednesday mornings.

Men’s Group meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesday evenings.

Williamsburg Christian Women’s group meets the last Thursday of every month.

Community Outreach

Come join our Outreach group and bless our neighbors! Some of our past projects include dinner for volunteer fire department, appreciation gifts for teachers at Williamsburg Elementary, Fall Family Fest and other community events that support and uplift those in need within our community.

Outreach holds a regular prayer walk through Williamsburg at 9:30 am on the 4th Saturdays of the month during Spring, Summer and Fall.

Children & Youth Programs

Vacation Bible School is held every year before school starts for preschool through 6th grade. VBS lasts a week. Every evening  there are fun events, Bible learning, worship and a meal provided. On the Sunday following VBS, the kids present a program to the church during worship service.

The Youth Fellowship is a dynamic program designed for teens to explore their faith, build friendships, and serve the community.

Seasonal Studies

Connect with others in prayer and study during each Lent and Advent. These studies meet one night a week and are based on a book. Each study lasts four weeks.

Blessing Box

The Blessing Box provides an opportunity for people to donate shelf-stable food and household items to those in need.

Upcoming Church Events

Community Dinner

Join us every 3rd Thursday of the month at noon for fellowship and delicious food. There is always plenty at our table. You are welcome to bring a dish to share.

Mar. 20 at 12:00 p.m.

The God We Can Know Lenten Study

Join us for a study of “The God We Can Know” by Rob Fuquay. Getting to know God means getting to know ourselves. The more we know who God is, the more we know who we are. The Gospel of John records several declarations of Jesus known as the “I Am” sayings. This study is designed to help you find and form an answer to the most essential question in the Christian faith, “Who do you say I am?”

Mondays at 6:30 Mar. 17 through April 7

"Why Forgive" Study

The adult Sunday School will study “Why Forgive” by Johann Christoph Arnold. In Why Forgive? Arnold tells the untidy experiences of ordinary people. These people, who have overcome the cancer of bitterness and hatred, can help you unleash the healing power of forgiveness in your own life.

Sundays at 9:30 a.m.

Spring Break Movie Night

Williamsburg United Methodist Church and Williamsburg Rec Center go to the movies!

See “The Wild Robot” while enjoying a meal, popcorn and refreshments.
